There are several different types of Facebook Ads you can run. Each of them helps to grow your business and can be used to target and engage with your target audience. In this post, I will explain three different types: single image, carousel images, and video.
Single Image
Single image ads are great to use when you are focusing on one specific concept and a very eye-catching image that your target audience can focus on. It is important to note, that the size of the image must be 1200 x 628 pixels. When the image is too big Facebook will cut your image off. It is also, important that your text and audience targeting corresponds directly with the image that you use in the single image ad.
Another factor to consider is how much text is in your image. Facebook recommends text taking up less than 20% of the image. However, I have run ads that have been very successful that do not follow that rule. Based on my experience I would use your best judgment. As long as the text enhances the image and does not look like it is overpowering or blocking full image I would not worry about Facebooks’s alert.
Carousel Images
These ads are very interactive and can be used to show multiple dimensions of your products or services. The size of each image needs to be 1080 x 1080 pixels in order to not be cut off. You can check a box that allows Facebook to show the best performing image first or you can not check the box and have the order of the images matter.
These ads do especially well for artists or advertisers who are showing off their work. Carousel ads allow those types of businesses to show multiple examples of their past work. Another example of a great image to include in a carousel ad is a map of where your business is located. Especially for local businesses such as restaurants, salons, and retail stores who want to increase local foot traffic. By including a map image, users can click on your ad and get directions to your business and know the hours you are open right from the ad.
Video Ads
Video ads are great for almost any brand. When using videos, the shorter the better. For Facebook Ads I recommend ads be shorter than 45 seconds. For Instagram, the ads are not even able to be shown if the video is longer than 60 seconds. It is also important to know that many people watch video ads without sound. Therefore, if a video ad cannot get the message across without sound it is best to stick with single image and carousel ads.
However, many people watch video ads without sound. When including audio in your video ads, it is still important to make sure the video is clear and crisp. People will be very quick to dismiss your ad if they hear poor quality sound even if the visuals and text are very strong.
